Summary Description
A follow on 1 year course from the IGCSE Sanskrit course, developing the knowledge of Sanskrit grammar further through the study of Sanskrit literature. Students must have passed the Cambridge IGCSE Sanskrit exam (or are awaiting their exam results) or an equivalent from another institution. 

Course Entry Prerequisites
Students must have taken and have passed the IGCSE exam or equivalent with a good result, C or above. Students who have taken the exam and are awaiting results will be allowed to enrol but will require a good pass result in order to continue.

Duration and Timings

  • One year duration. Starts from June
  • 2 sessions per week (attendance required for both sessions)
  • Tuesdays 8.00pm to 9.00pm and Fridays 8.00pm to 9.00pm (UK time, Zoom-based)
  • NB: Sessions will be recorded

Course Content
To strengthen the IGCSE foundations, the first 8 to 12 weeks of this one year course will be used to revise topics covered in the IGCSE course, along with 1 or 2 verses per session from the selected verses from prescribed scriptures. Thereafter, the number of verses per session will be increased to a palatable number depending upon the acceptability of the aspirants. Aspirants will be encouraged to translate from English to Sanskrit and vice versa.

The prescribed scriptures will consist of the following:

  • Bhagavad Gītā
  • Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa
  • Upaniṣads
  • Buddha Caritā
  • Manu Smṛiti
  • Hitopadeśa
  • Introduction to Pāṇini’s Aṣṭadhāyī & some selected sūtras

Course Outcomes
All students will be encouraged to take periodic assessments during the course, leading to a Certificate of Achievement from Sanskrut Bhakti at the end of the year. Currently, there is no plan to hold any formal annual examinations.

Course Requirements
Please note that this is an intensive course. Students will need to be committed and ensure that they have the time to attend all classes, if possible. There will be some requirement for self-study and homework.

The medium of instruction is English.

All course communication related to Sanskrut Bhakti is via email and WhatsApp using Internet-links to course resources. Hence, students must be capable of using these.

Course Costs
There is no Course Fee. All Sanskrut Bhakti teaching and administration is on a purely voluntary basis. Students may make a voluntary contribution to Sanskrut Bhakti to cover their essential administration costs e.g. Zoom, Google Drive etc. Details will be provided at the start of the course.
